Practice Makes Perfect...

My dad and I have been on a an interesting mission the last few weeks. That is: TO DISCOVER THE PERFECT CINNAMON BUN. I stumbled across this idea one late night when I had trouble sleeping. Alton Brown had an episode on Food Network regarding bake goods, particularly cinnamon rolls. So, apart from Alton Brown giving me this great idea, I also wanted to perfect a cinnamon roll recipe for Spencer. He loves them, I hate them. And to show Spencer my love for him I wanted to perfect a cinnamon roll recipe that he would absolutely go crazy for. So, my dad and I have made a different batch every Saturday night for the last 3 weeks so that he can take them to his early morning Sunday meetings and have them officially graded by a bunch of hungry grown men. So we've tried a few recipes, a few different frostings, and still aren't completely satisfied with anything we've got so far-- SO, SUGGESTIONS AND RECIPES ARE WELCOME AND APPRECIATED!

Email me those great recipes! sara.salmon@gmail.com

have you tried the string/floss method for cutting them?? where you put the string underneath the roll, wrap it around criscrossing at the top and pull tight, it makes the buns perfect circles! (you won't get a flat spot) ALSO, Sister cichy used to put a couple scoops of Vanilla icecream on the top of them when she baked them to make them super gooey!!!

SOOOOOO GOOD!!!!!

Hmmm. They look good to me--if you need some more opinions . . . John, Anya and I are great judges of cinnamon rolls :)

You should talk to Cyndi Palmer. She made cinnamon rolls (sorry, just can't bring myself to call them buns) for us when we were at her house and they were DIVINE.

My mom makes some really yummy ones, but you know who else does? Laurel Ruiz -- she makes yummy cinnamon knots. I think she got it from G-ma Salmon, but she used to make them a lot and bring them in to down and they are SO good! Also, whatever you make for the cinnamon bun, make a thick cream cheese frosting. That's what my mom does and they are SO good! Ooh also -- kay my mom makes cinnamon buns, but she also does these cinnamon pull apart things -- they are almost better I think! Let me know if you want the recipe!

Poor you and your hate for cinnamon buns. Why did they have to hide your medicine in such a delicious dessert when you were little?

As one of the grown men (like your dad, Mark, is a grown man) I can speak with authority that the only bad cinnamon roll I witnessed during this quest is one that Sam Miskin beat me to. Keep going, you're getting better every week!
